The small town of Impruneta, just a few kilometers from Florence, produces what is considered the world's finest terra cotta.
Since Roman times terra cotta has been used to make roof tiles, floor tiles and masterpieces such as the olive jars (Orci), lemon pots (Conche) and statues used to build and decorate the Tuscan villas and farm houses.
The distinguishing characteristic of this clay (Argilla) is represented by its unique range of soft warm colors, its texture and patina. New terra cotta is still traditionally crafted according to the highest standards.
Both antique and new terra cotta are among Tuscany’s sought after treasures.
